Although distilled at Mount Gay, this rum was originally intended for the Mount Gilboa brand started by Frank Ward in 2006. Frank is a descendant of Aubrey Ward, who acquired the Mount Gay distillery in 1918 and established the eponymous brand. The short-lived Mount Gilboa rums, made on the same site, were characterised by having been thrice distilled in pot stills - a rare practice in rum-making. When Ward sold his last shares in the distillery in 2014 Velier brought the 19 oldest Mount Gilboa casks and blended them to make this one-of-a-kind rum.
