Amrut Fusion Single Malt WhiskyTo create Fusion, both unpeated Indian barley and peated Scottish barley are distilled and matured separately in American oak barrels for more than four years. Amrut Fusion is then blended and married in American oak barrels for an additional three months. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 50% ABV, it is lightly peated with a complex flavour profile. This whisky was named Third Finest Whisky in the World by acclaimed whisky writer Jim Murray in 2010. Closed at first, but the whisky slowly opens up in the glass: heavy and spicy, with black pepper and raisins bolstered by barley sugar, toffee, oaky spice, a whiff of smoke and a thick umami richness on the nose. The palate is intensely flavoured and complex, with layers of fruit, spice and smoke at first there is almost too much going on. Thick vanilla sweetness is tempered by smoky peat, and chocolate fudge is complemented by grapes and spicy oak. Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky 70clProduced from malted barley grown in Punjab, this non-aged-statement single malt whisky is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and has distictive aromas of spice and ripe fruit. The nose is sweet, with candy necklaces and Love Hearts joined by honeysuckle and a gentle touch of sour lemon. Notes of apple develop both sweet and floury apples as well as intensely flavoured boiled sweets. An initial creaminess on the palate is swept into the background by sweet and sour fruit apples, crunchy pears, unripe pineapple, mango and hints of banana. Sharp clove spice sits behind that, with tannic fruit skin dryness at the very back. Very long finish. Sweet and grainy, with damp leaves and liquorice. Amrut Peated Indian Single Malt WhiskyDistilled in India from Scottish barley that has been malted and dried over peat fires at Port Ellen. On the nose you find candied sweetness followed by a burst of mineral-rich smoke charcoal smouldering in a stone pit. Fruit develops, with candied lime peel and zest, dried apple and a concentrated mix of tropical fruit unripe mango, papaya and blood orange. The smoke hits first on the palate, with sweet wood and spice anise and liquorice root. However, it takes a back seat to layers of fruit and sweet grain sugary fruit jellies, shortbread and a gentle citrus zest sharpness. Sweet and citrusy finish, with a gentle tingle of white pepper.
